3D scanning for public safety and defence
Scene capture, collision measurement and defence engineering. Record a scene or a damaged vehicle exactly as it was, then measure it after it has been cleared. Artec scanners, training plus UK support from an Artec Gold Certified partner and Ambassador.

Tape and camera, or a scanner?
What leaves the scene with you
A tape, a camera and a sketch record what the investigator chose to measure on the day. A scan records the scene as it was at the moment of capture, so the question nobody asked yet can still be answered later.
| Tape, camera and sketch | 3D scan | |
|---|---|---|
| What is recorded | The measurements taken on the day | Every surface in view, in full colour |
| Measuring later | Only from photographs and notes | Any distance, position or angle, from the model |
| Small evidence | Photographed, positions noted by hand | Artec cite bloodstain patterns, bullet holes, tool marks and shoe prints captured in minutes |
| Vehicles | Crush measured at chosen points | Whole vehicle captured; damage compared with the original CAD for twist and distortion |
| Large scenes | Many measurements, long time on scene | Ray II documents whole scenes in minutes from tripod stations |
| After the scene is cleared | What was missed stays missed | The scene can be revisited and re-measured, including details missed in person |
| Sharing | Paper, photographs and drawings | One 3D model, shared with Artec Cloud between scene, lab and office |
How scan data is handled as evidence is a matter for your own procedures. We supply and train on the kit as well as the software.
The pressure on scene
Clear it quickly, but miss nothing
- 01
Roads and scenes must reopen
Every minute of a road closure costs. Capture has to be fast and complete the first time.
- 02
Crews at risk
Collapsed structures, tunnels and unstable ground. Artec position the Jet for capturing incident scenes while crews stay at a safe distance.
- 03
Questions arrive later
The measurement nobody took on the night is the one that matters months afterwards.
- 04
Damage has to be quantified
Crush depth, twist and distortion on a car, a train or a military vehicle need a reference to measure against.

Questions we get asked
Something else? Ring 0330 229 0175 and an engineer will answer it.
Not answered here?
Ask the engineers who run the machines. We answer the same working day.
Can a scanner work at night or underground?
The Artec Jet can. LiDAR emits its own light and SLAM needs no satellites. Unlit tunnels and sealed buildings therefore scan as well as daylight sites.
Does the Leo work outdoors?
Yes. Its Class 1 VCSEL projector casts a pattern invisible to the eye, so it works outdoors on a bright day as well as indoors.
Is scanning safe around people?
The Ray II uses a Class 1 laser that is invisible and eye safe. The Artec Eva uses white structured light with no laser.
How long does it take to learn?
Artec say training on their scanners takes less than two hours. We also run a one-day Artec Studio Essentials course.
Can you measure crash damage against the original design?
Yes. Touch probing records datum positions while scanning captures the deformation, which is compared with the original CAD to quantify twist and distortion.
Can we hire a scanner for a single case?
Yes. We hire the Artec Leo, Eva and Spider, so a unit can try scanning on a live case before it buys.
See a scene captured before you commit
We demonstrate on a vehicle or a staged scene of your choosing. We also train your team on the scanner and Artec Studio.
