ApplicationsDigital twins
Digital twins from 3D scans
A digital twin is only as good as its geometry. We scan equipment, lines and whole facilities so the twin starts from what was measured, in a format the platform can load.

What it is
Measured geometry for a digital twin, instead of assumed geometry.
A twin needs accurate geometry of the real asset. Drawings are often wrong or out of date. Scanning captures machines, production lines or facilities as point clouds and meshes, at an accuracy chosen for what the twin is for.
Meshes are decimated to a target polygon count so the platform can load them. Equipment is captured separately from its surroundings so it can be moved in the model. Ray II surface data can be refreshed through the life of the asset.
Why scan it
What 3D capture changes about this job, against tape, callipers and drawings.
- 01
A measured start
The twin begins from measured geometry where the drawings are wrong or out of date.
- 02
Light enough to load
Meshes are decimated to a target polygon count for the platform.
- 03
Movable equipment
Equipment is captured separately from its surroundings so it can be moved in the model.
- 04
Kept up to date
Ray II captures of plant and facilities can be repeated through the life of the asset.

Questions we get asked
Something else? Ring 0330 229 0175 and an engineer will answer it.
What formats do you deliver for a twin?
Registered point clouds in E57, LAS or RCP, georeferenced where control exists, plus meshes decimated to a target polygon count.
Is a digital twin the same as Artec Twins?
No. A digital twin is the measured 3D model of a real asset. Artec Twins is Artec’s software for merging and exploring site-scale scans. You can buy it and build twins yourself, or have us build the twin for you.
Rather we did it for you?
Bring it to Whitchurch or we come to you. An engineer scopes the job, captures it and hands back the data in the format your team works in. Or hire the scanner for a week and do it yourself.
