Artec Point II questions
Does the Point II need targets?
Yes. It is a target-based scanner, so you place targets on the part or on a fixture around it before you scan. We stock the targets it uses. Once they are placed, scanning and processing in Artec Studio work much as they do with any other Artec scanner.
Does Artec Studio cost extra?
Yes. Every Point II needs Artec Studio to scan and process. It is licensed separately from the scanner. For processing, Artec recommend an Intel processor with 8 cores plus 16 threads at 2.6 GHz or faster, 64 GB of RAM or more and a graphics card with 8 GB of video memory, on Windows 10 or 11.
How do the three scanning modes differ?
Ultra-fast mode uses 54 crossed lasers to cover large parts quickly with a lighter mesh. Hyper-fine mode uses 17 parallel lines for complex surfaces and small details such as engravings. Deep-hole mode uses a single line to reach into grooves and holes. You switch between them with one click.
What does the ISO certification mean in practice?
Each scanner is calibrated and tested in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory. Its accuracy and repeatability are accredited against VDI/VDE 2634 plus JJF 1951. That gives you documented evidence that the scanner measures to its specification, which matters when your inspection reports go to a customer or an auditor.
Can I combine Point II scans with other Artec scanners?
Yes. Artec Studio merges data from Artec scanners, so you can scan a large assembly with a Leo and capture the critical features with a Point II, keeping the best resolution each one offers in a single model.
Can I try one before buying?
Yes. Book a demonstration and bring the part you need to measure, at our site in Cheshire, at yours or online. We will scan it and show you the colour map against your CAD before you decide.
What support do I get in the UK?
Europac 3D is an Artec Gold Certified Specialist and Ambassador, based in Cheshire. We deliver and set up the scanner, train your team in Artec Studio, then give technical help by phone or email. The Point II carries a one-year warranty. Claims are handled through us rather than overseas.
