Artec Metrology Kit questions
What is the Metrology Kit used for?
Inspection such as roundness, sheet metal or fixtures; analysis such as deformation, tolerance or process studies; and referencing for other measuring systems, including Artec scanners. It also handles part alignment and CAD comparison.
Can it replace a 3D scanner?
No. It measures targets very accurately over distance, but it does not produce the dense surface data a scanner does. Use it on its own for target measurements, with a scanner for accurate surfaces on large objects, or both.
Which scanners work with it?
Artec publish combined figures of 0.115 mm + 0.015 mm/m with a Leo or Eva and 0.065 mm + 0.015 mm/m with a Space Spider on the Professional version. With the Leo you copy the target file onto the scanner and scan with no computer attached.
What software do I need?
The Metrology Kit plugin comes with the kit and runs inside Artec Studio. Studio is required for the combined workflow and licensed separately. For standalone target measurement you can also use your own photogrammetry software. Results carry into Geomagic Control X, PolyWorks and other inspection packages.
Basic or Professional?
Basic, which Artec call Entry, suits less demanding engineering work and parts up to around 2 m. Professional has the higher resolution camera, tighter accuracy, DAkkS-calibrated scale bars of 1,430 mm and 830 mm plus a VDI 2634 certified system. It makes photogrammetry in harder environments easier.
Can I see it before buying?
Yes. We will show you the kit and a scanner together on your own part, at our site in Cheshire or at yours. We will tell you honestly if a Point II or a Kreon arm would suit the job better.
What support do I get in the UK?
Europac 3D is an Artec Gold Certified Specialist and Ambassador, based in Cheshire. We deliver the kit, train your team on the photogrammetry and scanning workflow, then give technical help by phone or email. Warranty claims are handled through us rather than overseas.
