What we cover

The first 2 days are the Geomagic Design X Essentials (2 days)course; the rest is this course’s own.

  1. Day 1

Scan data and Design X fundamentals

    from Geomagic Design X Essentials
    • Design X interface and workflow
    • Importing scan and mesh data
    • Mesh preparation and repair
    • Alignment and coordinate systems
    • Region segmentation and editing
    • Creating reference geometry
    • Introduction to scan-based modelling
  2. Day 2

    Parametric reverse engineering

    from Geomagic Design X Essentials
    • Creating sketches from scan data
    • Extracting dimensions and design intent
    • Building parametric CAD features
    • Extrudes, revolves, holes, patterns and common features
    • Editing the feature tree
    • Accuracy analysis against the original scan
    • CAD export and LiveTransfer
    • Practical reverse-engineering exercise
  3. Day 3

    Advanced modelling and surfacing

    • Advanced mesh preparation and editing
    • Working with complex and organic geometry
    • Freeform surfacing
    • Selective surfacing techniques
    • Auto Surfacing workflows
    • Combining parametric and surface modelling
    • Choosing the most appropriate reverse-engineering method
    • Advanced accuracy checking
    • Practical complex-part exercise

What you leave able to do

In addition to the core mechanical reverse-engineering workflows covered during Days 1 and 2, attendees will learn how to approach complex, organic and freeform components using Design X's advanced surfacing tools.

How it works

Two places to run it

At our Whitchurch facility, where the machines, software and sample parts are already set up — or at your site, on your own hardware, parts and network. The price differs; the course does not.

Three people included

The price covers up to three attendees. Bigger groups are fine — tell us the number and we will price it.

Bring your own parts

The exercises work on our sample data, but they work far better on yours. Send a part or a dataset ahead of the day and we will build the practical around it.

What it goes with

The software

Geomagic Design X

Full reverse engineering to design-intent, editable parametric CAD — recreate how the part was designed, not just its surface.

About Geomagic Design X
