Applications3D printing from scans
3D printing from scans
Scan an object that has no 3D data and print it: a copy, a version scaled up or down, or a design modified by hand that needs replicating. Our own print bureau is in the same building.

What it is
Scan an object with no 3D data and print a copy, a scaled version or a new design.
A 3D scanner captures any object that has no CAD and turns it into a triangulated mesh, an STL file a 3D printer builds directly. It works for objects made by hand, parts that need scaling and physical design changes that need replicating.
Because scanning and printing happen under one roof, with 3D Printworx as our print bureau, a part can go from scanner to printed copy without anybody on your side opening CAD software.
Why scan it
What 3D capture changes about this job, against tape, callipers and drawings.
- 01
No file needed
Capture any object without 3D data and convert it to an STL ready to print.
- 02
Any size you want
Scale the original larger or smaller and print new versions.
- 03
Fits first time
Artec quote a user who expects the first print to fit, instead of waiting through five or six eight-hour prints.
- 04
One building
We scan, reverse engineer if needed, then print, even if you have no 3D modelling capability.

Questions we get asked
Something else? Ring 0330 229 0175 and an engineer will answer it.
Can you scale a part up or down before printing?
Yes. Scanning lets the original be scaled larger or smaller and printed as a new version.
Do I need CAD skills to get a scan printed?
No. We help at every stage, scanning, reverse engineering and printing, even if you have no 3D modelling capability.
Rather we did it for you?
Bring it to Whitchurch or we come to you. An engineer scopes the job, captures it and hands back the data in the format your team works in. Or hire the scanner for a week and do it yourself.
